About Us

Miasibka is a small family orientated cattery in the Northern suburbs of Perth, Western Australia and we are very proud to have introduced the Siberian into Western Australia and to be the first owners and breeders in this State of the beautiful Siberians.

I first fell in love with the Siberian breed at a cat show in Canberra where Miakoschka Isidora was being shown as a kitten. From this encounter I became enchanted with the breed as a whole and this has led to my owning and becoming  involved in the further development of the breed.

Our policy is to raise all kittens as part of the family – and the adult cats seem to think that they are people too!

Our original 3 Siberians from Miakoschka Cattery in Queensland (and we thank Marie Mahoney for letting Isidora, Yurik and Aleksei come to live with us) have now been joined by Miasibka Nikoletto, a Black Spotted Tabby boy from Isidora and Yuriks first litter which we have kept as a show boy and who is so far doing exceptionally well

Our plans for the future include importing new Siberian lines from overseas and negotiations for this are in place.

What is a Siberian Cat

The Siberian is a large, strong cat, which can take up to five years to mature.  They are noted for being very agile and can leap great distances. Their muscles are outstanding and powerful. The hind-leg of the Siberian is slightly longer than the front legs, with large and powerful firm rounded paws. The overall appearance is of a cat of great strength and size with an excellent physical tone. The facial expression is alert but sweet with large almost round eyes.

The coat is the Siberians crowning glory, this is a moderately to long haired with an abundant ruff around the neck setting off the large impressive head. There is a tight undercoat, which becomes thicker in colder weather.

Colour varieties of the Siberian vary and all colours are genetically possible, such as tabby, solid colours tortoiseshell colours and colour point varieties.

Personality Plus: The Siberian has a very dog like temperament and are very affectionate. They come out to great the visitors in the house and are not shy. They are very intelligent and very quick learners. They also have a triple purr and unlike other breeds have a chirping sound they use when they come to greet you. When they are around water they appear to be fascinated with it and will drop toys into it and play in sinks with water left in. The Siberian makes the ideal lap cat and will live quite happily indoors with you

Hypo-Allergenic Fur: Although no confirming scientific studies have been made there is some evidence that the Siberian may lack the FEL D-1 protein in its saliva which is responsible for dander, the primary cat allergen.

Origin of the Siberian

Siberians are said to have been taken originally from Russia to Siberia, where they developed their thick protective coats against the harsh winters; then, ultimately brought back to Russia where they were bred, primarily in Leningrad and Moscow. This will have to remain a legend, as no substantial proof seems to have been offered of these events.
Regardless of their origin, Siberians are glorious cats, with personality-plus, which qualifies them as an all-around good candidate for a pet.
